About Me

Hello, and welcome to my website! I'm Francesca De Geronimo, a dedicated Master's student in Developmental Psychology at Teacher's College, Columbia University, aiming to earn a Ph.D. The goal of this website is to showcase my research and writing projects. Though I love research, I also love to tap into my more creative side and write – whether that be through blog posts, poems, or stories.

My research centers on adolescent psychosocial development and psychopathology, with a current focus on pubertal development and its link to risk-taking behaviors like substance use. I’ve submitted a paper discussing how pubertal timing and tempo affect substance use onset among Appalachian youth. My next project will examine the longitudinal relationship between family risk, pubertal development, negative urgency, and adolescent psychopathology. Additionally, I'm working on publishing my honors thesis, which explores the effects of internalizing and externalizing behaviors on adolescent alcohol and marijuana use. You can find the preprint version in the research tab.

Beyond my research, I’m passionate about writing, especially on topics like my mental health journey and the influential people in my life. I recently published an anthology reflecting on my mental health experiences during the pandemic, and plan on writing a book about my grandparents' turbulent yet passionate love story.

I’m always eager to connect with fellow professionals, industry leaders, and individuals who share my interests. If you’d like to discuss clinical or developmental psychology, explore potential collaborations, or simply network, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to connecting with you!

Check out my book!

"My Smile is My Mask: A Collection of Poems" explores the challenging thoughts that adolescents and young adults often experience. Through the author’s personal experiences, she hopes to enlighten readers about struggles like masking our true emotions from the rest of the world. Each poem is written to stand alone, or when read together, can reveal the complexities we may face when confronted with perpetuating thoughts. At the end, the reader can find a few pages to write their own reflections.
