PSYCH 353 – Social Development 

In this course, I explored the social, emotional, and physical development of children in the broader social context. We identified various influences on a child's development by looking at individual child factors (temperament, resiliency, gender); the role of parents and the extended family, as well as exploring the impact of the broader community (schools, peers, social services).

PSYCH 303 – Research Methods in Psych Research 

In this course, I was introduced to the "how-to: research studies in behavioral psychology. I covered topics such as research ethics, literature search, observational research, questionnaire-style research, laboratory experiments, APA-style writing, and basic statistics.  I also learned and practices research design and analysis, how to critique research writing, and design and conduct research projects.

PSYCH 250 – Intro to Developmental Psych

An introductory course that delves into developmental psychology from conception to death. I examined the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth of children, adolescents, and adults, and the various factors (e.g., genetics, parenting, peer groups, schooling, and the media) that influence development

STATS 250 – Intro to Statistics

This course introduced me to the contemporary scientific investigation of psychiatric disorders and psychological distress. It provided me a foundation for the critical examination of our current understanding of bio-psych-social issues, phenomenology, and treatment of major psychiatric disorders and related mental health problems.

PSYCH 111 – Intro Psych

An introductory course that where I explored the various theoretical bases for the understanding of human behavior. I dipped my toes in various fields of psychology, such as social psychology, clinical psychology, and cognitive psychology.

PSYCH 477 – Clinical Psych of Resilience

In this course, we integrated Clinical Psychology and Positive Psychotherapy to explore resilience and help me learn to apply the research so that I can build more resilience in my own life. Some topics we covered included: preventing PTSD from trauma and facilitating posttraumatic growth, challenging negative thinking patterns and learning optimism to prevent and treat depression, identifying and building your strengths (not just weaknesses), how to make stress your friend, cultivating a growth mindset, and gratitude for both the food and the bad in life to build resilience, as well and mindfulness, meditation and mindfulness-based therapies for mental illness that can help require the brain for more resilience. 

Rather than doing traditional papers, we spent explored different resilience exercises and wrote blog posts about our experiences and how they relate to research. I published the blog posts here

PSYCH 280 – Intro to Social Psych 

I was introduced to the field of social psychology where I covered a range of topics including social perception, the self, conformity and obedience, altruism, emotion, stereotypes and prejudice, interpersonal attraction, aggression, groups, attitudes, and persuasion.

This course only had exams, no written assignments except for an optional, extra credit paper

PSYCH 270 – Intro to Abnormal Psych

This course introduced me to the contemporary scientific investigation of psychiatric disorders and psychological distress. It provided me a foundation for the critical examination of our current understanding of bio-psych-social issues, phenomenology, and treatment of major psychiatric disorders and related mental health problems.

PSYCH 240 – Intro to Cognitive Psych

In this course, I was introduced to cognitive psychology. The topics I covered included: perception, learning, memory, language, imagery, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making. 
 

This course only had exams, no written assignments.
